My results are not what I needed, what do I do?
Firstly, breathe! It may sound clichéd, but try not to panic; all is not lost as you do have quite a few options.
If you have just narrowly missed your offer grades, you might still receive an unconditional offer, but you must contact the university to ensure that this is the case-if you don’t ask then you don’t get!
If your results were quite a bit lower than you were hoping, there are still a number of options:
Remark: You can appeal a result; this is something your school can request. There are two options: one is a clerical check, the second is a marking review. However, there is a limited time to request this so you must contact your school as soon as possible. Both options do include a fee, charged to the school.
Resit: You have just worked extremely hard for the last year/two years and having to re sit is not what you want to do in the aftermath of your results, but it is always an option. The chances are that you have already passed quite a bit of the course (internal assessments, folios, etc) therefore, you may not need to repeat everything. The experience of sitting your course will undoubtedly benefit you for your second attempt.
Clearing: If you did not get what you needed, clearance gives you the opportunity to successful take up a place the university needs filling. It may be the case that your desired course is not yet full and a lower grade might allow you a place. Vacancies for clearing are listed on the UCAS website, but you should contact them immediately.
